Life can be painful and difficult for those who are sensitive and prone to overthinking.
While it is a blessing to be soft and to have a sensitive heart, it is simultaneously painful and difficult. That is, it allows you to be more empathetic and compassionate but it also means that you can easily get hurt deeply. Similarly, being an overthinker has its advantages and disadvantages. In other words, you have great attention to detail and a sharp wit but you also become overwhelmed with confusion and anxiety.
Take a look at the five things which make life exceedingly difficult for those who have overthinking minds and sensitive hearts:
1. They care too much about other people’s opinions.
Overthinkers and sensitive people tend to take everything personally. Whether it is a joke or a fleeting comment, they can become overwhelmed by negative feelings. For this reason, their friends and family might try to encourage them to care less about what other people say or do. However, this can also sound like an attack to those who are sensitive, leaving them upset and deeply hurt.
2. They crave love – and constant validation.
Being in a relationship with a sensitive person means that you need to ensure that they feel loved, respected, and cared for as much as possible. If you fail to do so, their overthinking minds might make them begin to doubt your feelings. Taking this further, Reeds explains that ‘overthinkers need to be reassured of their partner’s love. Otherwise, they would never put themselves out there. These people are terrified of getting their hearts broken. That’s why they prefer to play it safe’.
3. They are used to living with regrets.
This is one of the things which makes life with an overthinking mind and a fragile heart extremely painful. As a result of their overthinking minds, they struggle greatly whenever they need to decide something; subsequently, more often than not, they do not feel entirely confident with their decision. This means that they often end up living with doubts and regrets.
4. They suffer from insomnia.
It is difficult to fall asleep when your mind is constantly in overdrive. According to Reeds, the minds of sensitive people and overthinkers ‘are a constant mess of irrational and perplexing thoughts that bother them on a daily basis’. Unsurprisingly, insomnia is one of the most common disorders which they experience.
5. They cannot live in the moment.
Emotional overthinkers tend to be so wrapped up in examining the issues they are facing and planning the future that they cannot find a way to relax, go with the flow, and live in the present moment.
An overthinking mind, a soft heart, and a pure soul can prove to be just as much of a curse as they are a blessing.
