What can a closet full of black clothes say about you?
If you constantly hear people comment on your outfit choices and ask why you’re always wearing black, you’re not alone. However, more often than not, people are not actually aware of why the clothes in their closets are mostly black. In reality, you might subconsciously prefer the color because of one or more of the following:
1. You are (or want to feel) powerful
Black is seen as the color of power. The way people dress is an expression of their identity and when we see someone dressed a certain way, we inevitably make assumptions about their personality. Needless to say, a lot of the times, these assumptions are completely false; however, they are nevertheless ways in which we initially perceive people. When you see someone in all black, they usually tend to exude a sense of power, ambition, and strength.
2. You want to feel protected
Apart from being the color of power, it is also the safest color. According to psychologists, those who wear black may do so to try to conceal their true emotions and identities by creating distance. Taking this further, if one was to wear yellow, green, or other bright colors, they would draw more attention to themselves and their personality than one who wears black.
3. You have a strong personality
Not everyone can pull of an all black look. Those who dress in colorful and creative outfits tend to rely on the way they look to convey their personalities and identities. Conversely, people who dress in all black do not need to use their clothes as a form of expression as their personalities always shine through their words and actions.
Ultimately, black exudes confidence, ambition, power, and mystery. At the same time, it is a color which many associate with class and elegance due to its simplicity. For these reasons, black is a color which can never go out of style.
