A man gave the weirdest explanation for his “unintended multi-day stay in the fan shaft,” but evidence to support his claims wasn’t found.
A police officer was in for quite a surprise when he responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle and found a 38-year-old man stuck inside a huge fan. The strange thing was that he willingly put himself in there but couldn’t get out for two whole days.
Reportedly, the vehicle was parked near the Santa Rosa winery in Northern California. Upon arrival, the cop saw a hat placed on top of a piece of farming equipment.
The cop then decided to investigate, and that was when he found the man trapped inside the shaft of the vineyard fan, The Washington Post reported.
After two days of agony, the man was finally freed by a rescue team.
And he gave a strange reason for why he got himself in this mess in the first place.
A statement shared on Facebook by the Sonoma Sheriff’s Office read the following:
“The occupant of the vehicle had, inexplicably, decided to climb into the shaft of the vineyard fan and became completely stuck inside the shaft. He had been stuck there for two days before we found him. The Fire Department responded and was able to extricate the man out of the fan shaft.
When interviewed, the man indicated he liked to take pictures of the engines of old farm equipment,” the statement went on to say.
What made things even more interesting is that the police found meth in his possession but no evidence of being at the site to take photographs.
“After a thorough investigation which revealed the farm equipment wasn’t antique and the man had far more methamphetamine than camera equipment, the motivation to climb into the fan shaft remains a total mystery,” the statement read.
After he was freed the man was given the medical attention he needed and will now likely be charged for the incident, according to police.
Their statement said:
“We elected to not arrest him as he required medical treatment. The Sheriff’s Office will be recommending charges of trespassing and drug possession, as well as violations of both his probation case and the pending case for which he is currently out of custody on pre-trial release.”
If the complaint had not been made, nobody knows what could have happened to the strange man. Now, he is on the way towards full recovery, but there is still no explanation for why he climbed inside the fan.
One person made a comment on the post saying:
“I’m really glad you guys found him. Would have been horrible if he died of dehydration there. I hope he gets the help he needs.”
Another wrote:
“I only wish we could hear his side of the story! Glad he was found alive.”
A third added:
“Looks like he managed to punish himself….2 days of solitaire confinement…Wow!”
And yet another joked:
“Not a candidate for American Ninja Warrior, but qualifies for a Darwin Award!”
