Love should not feel like hard work or push you to your limit making you feel as if you’re drowning in anguish and thoughts of worry.
You shouldn’t constantly be banging your head against the wall because you are always giving parts of yourself to someone who never gives you anything back.
Your times apart shouldn’t feel entirely different from when you are together.
You shouldn’t have to leave their place in the morning and instantly feel your stomach shrink due to a sudden worry about who they could be talking to now, where they would go and who with.
You should not have to over-analyze the lack of pet names and emojis in their messages and fret over a change in their tone of voice when they call.
You should not feel as if you don’t matter anymore because you are spending some time away from each other for a day, a week or a month.
Love should not drown you in tears and make you suffer.
Love should not be hard with the right person.
Not everything will be sunshine and rainbows all the time and you will have your fair share of problems, even with the right person by your side.
But they don’t insult and belittle you and their words are never designed to cause you pain.
The right person does not act like problems between you two are not their business and they don’t play mind games.
They discuss the issues at hand with you until they are settled and wouldn’t let you go to bed angry because they cannot stand to see you upset, especially if they were the ones who hurt your feelings in the first place.
Neither of you is perfect and both of you make mistakes, that’s just natural.
Love is meant to inspire, lift you up, and make you feel as if you can do anything you set your mind to.
It’s meant to be the light in a universe so dark and out of control.
Love should never burden, punish, or make you feel like a mere shell of the person you formerly were.
Love should not be a constant feeling of unease or a weight buried deep inside you, paralyzing your entire body, and it shouldn’t feel like a gun-wound so deep it would never heal.
The right partner will have an uncontrollable desire to make you happy, and they will do all they can just to put a smile on your face.
And once you are loved by the right person, you become the best version of yourself, and from here on nothing can stop you.
At one point or another, you will finally realize that love isn’t about constantly stressing and having sleepless nights due to the fear of betrayal.
Love means feeling safe in the arms of the right person.
Love means that happiness should outweigh sadness.
Love means being able to breathe easy because there is no room for dramas and emotional chaos.
When you are with the right person, they will show you how blissful love can be and how easy it is to be happy when you are together.
Love should be easy, like the feeling of those quiet weekend mornings when the rest of the world is sleeping and the only thing that matters in your world at the moment is how perfect your skin feels against your partner’s. And when you look into their eyes it feels like home.
That is what love should be, and if you haven’t found it yet, I hope that soon you will.
