When fear takes control of us, we lose our ability to do what needs to be done.
We hesitate, procrastinate and ultimately waste our time.
And fear can quickly spin things out of control if we fail to take action against it.
We fear starting new relationships and we fear as they come to an end. We fear quitting old and starting new jobs. We fear gaining weight but also fear losing it. We fear we might stay stuck and we fear moving forward into the unknown.
If we don’t take control, we can swiftly fall into living a spineless life, in which we fear all and anything.
The truth is, fear and the reasons why we don’t move forward in life are only in our minds.
It’s in our thoughts, our faulty beliefs and the stories we sell to ourselves.
The good news is that each of us holds the power to change everything. And unless we make changes to the way we approach life, we will continue to live in a state of anxiety.
Let us look at 7 tips on how we can become fearless and take control of our lives. It’s time!
1. Respect Fear
What we resist, persists. ~ Carl Jung
The fearless are not afraid to be afraid. They comfortably acknowledge their fear and know that fear is embedded into their nervous system, and therefore impossible to avoid. They have a good understanding of the role of fear, which is to warn and protect, and not to scare and prevent.
Fear is not your enemy. It is your ally that guides you through difficult situations and ensures the achievement of your goals.
Acknowledge your fear, respect it and bring it into the light.
2. Do Something That Scares You (On Your Own)
“Do one thing every day that scares you.” ~ Eleonor Roosevelt
If being the center of attention terrifies you, take a public speaking class or join something like Toastmasters. If you’re scared of heights, you might want to look into booking a sky diving session. Whatever scares you, confront it. Do not let it take a hold of you, and do not rely on someone else to hold hands with you while you do it. When you overcome one obstacle, you automatically set the stage to be able to overcome another, all by yourself.
3. Learn From Your Mistakes
“How much you can learn when you fail determines how far you will go into achieving your goals.”
Making mistakes is an inevitable part of our lives. While most of us fear to repeat the mistakes of the past, we must not allow our fear of failure to cloud our judgment and learning opportunities. Reflect on what went wrong and choose to continue onward. Moving forward, finding new ways of handling mistakes, and not giving up on trying should eventually minimize your fear of failing.
4. Share How You Feel With Someone
“It needs strength to stay silent, but it needs courage to confide in somebody.” ~
Is there something on your mind you’ve wanted to say for a long time? Maybe you would set yourself free if only you were able to express what’s been eating away at you in a graceful manner. Rather than waiting for the person next to you to address the things you’re dying to release, take matters into your own hands.
You might not like the outcome, but having readiness for any outcome will automatically take you out of the victim’s seat. In addition, the weight will finally be lifted off your shoulders. Being able to put your feelings on the table may prove that you too can be assertive, and that kind of bravery will carry over into other areas of your life.
5. Be True To Yourself
“There is only one corner of the Universe you can be certain of improving, and that is your own self.” ~ Aldous Huxley
Striving to be the best version of yourself is vital in living a bold, fearless life. Get rid of anything holding you back: miserable jobs, broken relationships, fake friendships, or pessimism. Having the courage to force the negative out of your life will leave generous room for the good. And when you truly become your best self acting fearless will be as natural and essential to you as breathing.
Fear is not your enemy.
If you use it rightly to instruct, drive and take you to the next level, fear will become the best thing you could be feeling right now.
You just have to turn your fear into fire!
