Bail fund supported by VP Kamala Harris released same man twice – now he’s been charged again

Thomas Moseley has been charged for the third time in half a year.

  • The 29-year-old was released two times after securing unconditional release from the Minnesota Freedom Fund.
  • Kamala Harris has openly supported the Minnesota Freedom Fund, an organization that aims to “end the harms of money bail and jailing people for poverty”.
  • Now, Moseley has been charged for the third time as he faces three felony counts of fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance while in possession of a weapon.
  • He remains in custody and his bail is set at $250,000.

The Minnesota Freedom Fund posted bail for Thomas Moseley two times; now, he has been charged again.

Thomas Moseley was arrested and bailed out of jail in two cases “involving allegations that include damaging a police precinct in August and rioting in December”, FOX News reported. 22 days after his last release, Moseley was charged and arrested on January 27. Now, he is facing three felony counts of fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance while in possession of a weapon, KSTP wrote. Moseley was allegedly caught in possession of marijuana, cocaine, and psilocin mushrooms.

According to FOX News, the new criminal complaint states:

In the two previously mentioned cases, the Defendant was able to secure unconditional release after the Minnesota Freedom Fund posted $5,000 cash in addition to a bond that had been previously secured. In a third now-pending case, the Defendant was then charged with Riot in the Second Degree from an event that occurred on December 31, 2020.

The Minnesota Freedom Fund is an organization backed by VP Kamala Harris.

On its website, the organization explains: “The Minnesota Freedom Fund pays criminal bail and immigration bonds for those who cannot otherwise afford to as we seek to end discriminatory, coercive, and oppressive jailing.” In June 2020, VP Kamala Harris publicly showed her support of this organization as she tweeted, “If you’re able to, chip in now to the @MNFreedomFund to help post bail for those protesting on the ground in Minnesota.” It is this organization that helped bail Thomas Mosely two times. After Moseley’s first arrest, the fund posted $5,000 to secure his release. Then, it posted $60,000 for his second release. Now, prosecutors will ask bail to be set at $250,000.

Twitter users commented on the VP’s involvement as they wrote:

The Minnesota Freedom Fund has been criticized for bailing out multiple individuals charged with violent crimes. According to FOX9, the organization put up $100,000 to bail Darnika Floyd: a woman who stabbed a friend to death and was charged with second-degree murder. In addition to this, the MFF also posted $350,000 bail to release Christopher Boswell, a man facing charges of sexual assault and kidnapping.
