No matter how much you love the people in your life, they may not always be right for you.
The more you grow, the more you realize that not everyone deserves to be in your life. You grow to understand that it is better to have a small group of close friends instead of a large group of people that you cannot trust. Friends who tear you down and make you feel worthless are not really your friends at all and if you are often made to feel miserable after being with them, you need to reevaluate your friendships.
In addition to this, there are 4 signs that you should cut ties with a toxic friend:
1. They exhaust you
If hanging out with your friends makes you feel exhausted, something is not right. If they constantly gossip, attract drama, or criticize you, they are most likely emotional vampires. The easiest way to confirm this if you notice that your mood drops significantly after being around them.
2. They judge you
A real friend would love you for everything that you are and support all of your decisions. Conversely, a toxic friend will point out your flaws and judge your actions. What is more, they may also be critical of your life choices and discourage you from following your dreams.
3. They bring out the worst in you
The people we spend our time with can influence and change the way we think and act. If you begin noticing that you are behaving, thinking or talking in a significantly more negative way, it is worth asking yourself whether your friends are bringing out the worst in you.
4. They are not invested in your friendship
Are you always the one to call, make plans, and check up? If so, you should consider the possibility that your friendship is one-sided. As with romantic relationships, friendships require two people who work hard and show that they are invested.
Even though it may be difficult to cut ties with the ones you love, it is sometimes necessary.
