Woman’s Breast Implant Saves Her Life By Deflecting Bullet

The life of a 30-year-old woman from Ontario, Canada was saved thanks to her breast implants.

What happened to her before she realized she had been shot is not clear. However, one thing is certain: She would likely not be alive if it wasn’t for the silicone implants.

The wondrous information about what transpired was shared in a case study by Sage Journals last Tuesday. Medical experts confirm that the woman survived a gunshot wound thanks to her silicone implant that prevented the bullet from reaching her heart.

The case note reads:

“The patient reported walking down [the] street and feeling heat and pain in her left chest, looking down and seeing blood.”

When she looked down and saw her own blood, she quickly went to the hospital and was brought to the trauma centre.

After doctors understood that she had been shot at close-range with a gun, they came to the conclusion that the bullet would have hit the heart if it wasn’t for her implant.

The research, headed by plastic surgeon Giancarlo McEvenue, notes that the silicon piece was “likely responsible” for deflecting the bullet’s trajectory and thus saved the lady’s life.

The case study, made available by Plastic Surgery Case Studies, reads that the lady was a  “comfortable patient in no distress.”

The woman’s bullet wound can be seen in the graphic photos provided in the journal.

Scans of her chest revealed that the bullet first entered her left breast before being deflected by the implant and entering her right breast, where the silicone was found to be in a  “completely flipped position.”

“Based on trajectory of bullet entry clinically and evaluation radiologically, the only source of bullet deflection… is the left breast implant,” the journal reads.

“This implant overlies the heart and intrathoracic cavity and therefore likely saved the woman’s life.”
