We’ve Arrived At A Point Where People Have Forgotten The Importance Of Physical Touch

Nowadays, society seems to have lost its view on physical touch.

For some insane reason, we’ve decided that caressing someone or hugging them just isn’t alright anymore.

And even though that may be justified when the person receiving the physical attention isn’t happy about it, it seems to have also somewhat become the norm among friends, colleagues, family, and even couples.

And now, we have become used to staying at a distance from others, about which experts warn may be detrimental to our mental wellbeing. We are living in an ever-more isolated world where people slowly seem to forget the importance of physical touch.

The Effects Are Damaging To Us

The importance of physical touch in our lives is immeasurable. The lack of it affects our mental health and we can start feeling deeply depressed, anxious, and alone.

And the truth is, you don’t need constant hugging and cuddling. Even a little pat on the shoulder or any kind of gentle touch can greatly improve your mood.

Regardless of what people may say, human touch is critically important for all of us.

The Mainstream Is Warning People Against It

A new conversation has emerged regarding personal boundaries and consent, which seems to have gone a little bit too far. There are parents who are too afraid to hug their adopted kids and doctors who are told they could get in legal trouble for comforting a patient by hugging them.

In addition, there have been stories about people too afraid to pick up another person’s child who fell and injured themselves. In a similar fashion, if a child gets hurt while at school, teachers are advised to let them bandage themselves.

We’ve come to a point where harmless physical touch is being demonized. Any form of it, regardless of how innocent, can ignite hysteria from people who seem to have gone mad. It’s hardly a surprise that people are being extra cautious about brushing against another person at work or on the street.

But We Are In Desperate Need For Companionship

As a result of all this, many people are trying to find ways to compensate for the lack of attention from the people closest to them. Some have sadly even turned to find comfort in the hands of professional cuddlers – people who get paid to hug and cuddle their customers. You can see more on this in the video below.

There are also machines made to fill the absence of human touch in people’s lives.
The most notable of these inventions is the Japanese Tranquility Chair. The chair uses soft arms that wrap around the person sitting on it.

And here it is:

As sad as it may sound, the world has found itself in a crisis of human touch. While we try to make the world a safer place for all, we seem to be destroying the very thing we need most. And as a result, mental health issues have risen dramatically.
