Trump Says He Will ‘look at’ Pardoning Tiger King’s Joe Exotic

Joseph Maldonado-Passage, also known as Joe Exotic, the star of Netflix documentary series Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness, is currently still behind bars in Texas on two counts of murder-for-hire in addition to other charges.

Last Wednesday, US President Donald Trump received a question about whether he would be willing to pardon the former owner of Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park, who is now serving his 22-year sentence, and here’s the brief exchange:

“Your son yesterday jokingly said that he was going to advocate for (a pardon),” New York Post reporter Steven Nelson asked Trump, referring to the words of Donald Trump Jr. said on Monday. The president did not seem to know about either the show or about what his son had said, asking, “Which son? Must be Don. I had a feeling it was Don.”

Trump noted that he did not know anything about Joe Exotic, and joked with journalists, asking whether they thought he should get a pardon, and eventually said, “I’ll take a look,” before moving on to more pressing questions.

Joe’s husband, Dillon Passage, recently shared with SiriusXM radio that Joe had to be moved to a different prison area due to some other inmates testing positive for coronavirus.

As per the New York Post, the Tiger King was transferred from Grandy Jail in Chickasha, Oklahoma, to Federal Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas. Even though the prison didn’t disclose details on Joe’s health, an April 2 post made on his page states:

“Joe DOES NOT have the COVID-19 virus, he’s in a 14-day quarantine because he was transferred from another facility.”

Joe is clear of the coronavirus but he is in a two-week quarantine to prevent the spread of the virus.

Whether the president will end up looking into Joe’s situation is still unclear. But in the meantime rumors have started going around that Netflix is making a new episode of his series, and a miniseries starring Kate McKinnon acting as Joe’s rival, Carole Baskin is coming up too.
