There’s A Sound That Apparently Only Youngsters Can Hear And You Might Be Too Old To Hear It
If you are familiar with the TV series ’30 Rock’ maybe you remember when Jenna Maroney (played by Jane Krakowski) acts as if she can hear a sound only young people can hear.
Well, as it turns out, this has now become a reality.
There actually is a sound that only youngsters are able to hear.
And it’s no wonder that you’re asking yourself whether you will be able to hear it yourself.
A poll was conducted to test it. If you’d like to check it out make sure you wear your headphones or have the speakers on.
Listen to this first audio piece which 99% of people said they can hear:
Now check out the second one which is hard to hear for people over 40 years of age.
It is 14,400 hertz and 91% of people who took the test heard it. It can be painful to listen to.
Now listen to the sound only teens are said to be able to hear.
56% of those who took the test heard it. It is 17,400 hertz.

What can we take away from this?
As our bodies age, many of our key senses lose their strength, and that includes hearing.
30 to 35% of those aged over 65 will experience hearing loss in some form and there is a medical term for it – presbycusis.
John Hopkins Medicine explained:
“Most often, it affects the ability
to hear high-pitched noises such as a phone ringing or beeping of a microwave. The ability to hear low-pitched noises is usually not affected.”
