Ashley Chan, a 24-year-old Singapore sex worker, has written an exclusive memoir about her high-end escort experience. In the book “Scarlet Harlot: My Double Life,” Chan exposes spicy details from the life of sex workers. As AsiaOne reveals, she even shares how she has learned to be absolutely discreet and why you should never fall in love.
The bold young woman has been leading a double life – university business student by day and a sex worker by night. Throughout her nightly adventures, she reveals she has been paid to do some crazy stuff, including kicking a man in the genitals, choking a man, and acting as a professional ‘party girl’ while consuming a drug cocktail.
Although many of her escort experiences have been far from pleasant, Chan says:
“I’m proud to call myself a whore.”
The high-end companion says that the pandemic has made it “quite difficult to work,” but she has “regulars” who support her during these hard times.
As Chan reveals, her earnings have been reduced by nearly 60% during the coronavirus pandemic. However, she admits she is still “relatively privileged” compared to some of her colleagues.
According to the 24-year-old, in the world of sex work, race and nationality play a larger role than people might think. When it comes to a companion’s financial worth, she says:
“Escorts from Vietnam and Thailand are more beautiful, but they’re not as intellectual in their companionship. They’re beautiful in a ‘trophy wife’ or ‘bimbo’ sort of way – but they lack the ability to interact because of the language barrier.”
On the other hand, in her opinion, Singaporean-Chinese escorts come “at a slightly higher price point, because we are a little more intellectual.”
Ashley sees herself as a business owner with herself as her property.
For that matter, she makes quite a few regular investments in herself, such as yoga classes for a good and healthy-looking body, designer items to keep a luxurious image, and frequent visits to the doctor to make sure she is fit to continue working.
However, as a downside of her business, Chan shares that social media platforms have made it incredibly hard for her and other sex workers in the industry.
“These days there are actually fewer new escorts, but more sugar babies. The whole Ashley Madison thing makes girls think that it’s easy money, but it’s actually not – and the industry has changed for the worse because of that.”

Despite these difficulties, Chan is not afraid of competition. In fact, she wants to help her fresh coworkers. One of the main reasons she decided to publish her sex worker memoirs is to make sure other girls who are about to get involved in the industry know what they are actually getting into.
“My father essentially made me an escort.”
Chan’s first steps in the world of sexual escort occurred after her father abandoned the family and refused to finance her education. Similar to many girls seeking a better life, she was impressed by a job ad saying that it paid “$300 to $400 a day.”
“Escorting doesn’t happen in a vacuum. My father essentially made me an escort; if he had financed me through school, I would not be one. I did consider other options before I became a sex worker at 19, but I decided, first and foremost, I needed money for my education.”
In her book, Chan also opens up about the scars her life as a sex worker has left her with.
“People think they can do sex work for a short time, make their money, and leave. But how can selling your body not change you?”
Her unusual occupation has emotionally damaged her many times, and she is not afraid to admit it.
“I got depressed to the point where I didn’t want to do anything. I would wake up, and sleep and wake up, and go back to sleep, and didn’t think of anything. People laugh at it. They say, ‘You’re a whore, so what pressures do you have?’ But dealing with many people’s emotions, and with their psyches, is not exactly the easiest thing, especially when you have no external outlet. You internalise it, and then that becomes dangerous.”
Today, Ashley plans to leave the escort world as soon as she graduates from university.
Although she admits “the money is good,” she realizes that she needs to fill her resume with white-collar jobs as well. What is more, the 24-year-old confesses she is still looking for the moment where she would have the ‘Singaporean Dream’ – a husband, house, and two or three beautiful children.
“I don’t come from a good family, so I would want my children to have a good family.”
Overall, the Singaporean companion is proud of her life as a sex worker. She is grateful for the life her profession has given her, and she does not feel ashamed to say it out loud.
