National Parks Claim More Missing People As Unsolved Cases Go Up 29

A number of people have disappeared in National Parks in just the past month.

The search for a woman named Gabby Petito has revealed the frightening number of missing people cases that are reported in the US yearly.

Petito went missing during a road trip with her boyfriend Brian Laundrie and has last been spotted at Wyoming’s Grand Teton National Park.

Many of the National Parks in the US are praised for their exceptional beauty and wilderness, and with some going through hostile conditions in the summer, people often go missing while exploring.

Although the National Parks service does not have a public data log of how many missing people there currently are, it was revealed that a minimum of six people have disappeared in parks across the US in the past month alone. Some people have since been found safe and sound, but others remain missing.

Some of the missing persons include 26-year-old Jerren Fisher, who disappeared while on a lone hiking trip in Olympic National Park a week ago, Joel Thomazin, 31, who disappeared at Yosemite National Park, and Robert Lowery, 46, who went missing in Grand Teton on August 20.

According to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System, there are currently 20,685 unsolved cases, most of which do not get the publicity or resources of high-profile cases like that of Gabby Petito.
