Thursday was a memorable day in the lives of Kateri and Jay Schwandt, both 45. The sweet Michigan couple, who already had a full house with 14 sons, finally welcomed an adorable baby girl, Daily Mail reveals. Little Maggie Jayne is the 15th child the couple has and the first girl in the family. She is named after both her mom and dad. Maggie represents Margaret – her mother’s middle name, and Jayne is a variation of her dad’s name Jay.
Kateri and Jay’s love story began when they were freshmen at Gaylord High School and Gaylord St. Mary’s. They officially became a family in 1993, already having three sons before graduating college. However, it took them quite a lot of tries until Kateri finally gave birth to a girl.
As per Detroit Free Press, the father-of-fifteen said:
“We are overjoyed and beyond excited to add Maggie Jayne to our family. This year has been memorable in so many ways, for so many reasons, but Maggie is the greatest gift we could ever imagine.”
After having 14 boys, the family never expected their next child would be a girl.
Tyler, Zach, Drew, Brandon, Tommy, Vinny, Calvan, Gabe, Wesley, Charlie, Luke, Tucker, Francisco, and Finley had no idea they would finally have a sister. One of the brothers, Tyler, 28, who is now engaged and lives in his own home, shared the family may not be fully prepared for this surprise. He said:
“I don’t even know if my mom owns any pink clothing — or anything.”
Although their children give incredible meaning to Kateri and Jay’s life, the father is certain:
“I have said, steadfastly, that we are done having children. But I have been reminded that I said the exact same thing after Tucker (who’s now 4). And after Francisco. It just feels like we’re done.”
The proud mother, however, shares they enjoy their ‘full-house’ style of life, arguing that, “If we didn’t, we wouldn’t have continued to have this many children.”
