Man pulls off outrageous scheme using body double to get his chunky cat on an airplane

During an eight-hour-flight from Moscow to Vladivostok, one Russian man decided to do something quite daring.

He didn’t want his cat to travel in cargo, so he figured out a way to take it in the plane’s cabin with him.

Mikhail Galin tried to trick the aircraft company Aeroflot. His 4-year-old cat Viktor was a bit over the animal weight limits of the Russian airline. So, he used a body double. Although his plan may seem genius, it got Mikhail kicked off the company’s frequent flier program.

The cat owner posted a detailed explanation of his elaborated scheme on Facebook after he and his 22-pound cat had safely landed in Vladivostok.

We can see the cat Viktor admiring the view through the plane window, as his owner is enjoying a glass of champagne.

Poor Viktor was sick of the previous flight they had from Riga, Latvia, to Moscow.

Moreover, he had been allowed to fly inside the plane’s cabin during that flight. Mikhail tried to persuade Aeroflot’s staff to let him bring his four-legged friend with him. Unfortunately, as he says, they didn’t bother to hear his explanation.

“To all attempts to explain that the cat won’t survive there on an 8-hour flight with the baggage and would haunt her in her nightmares for the rest of her life, she (the Aeroflot staff member) replied that there are rules.”

Mikhail’s plan was pretty well thought.

First, he had to find a similar, lighter cat to replace Viktor in the cargo. He asked around and finally found a mini-Viktor, the cat Phoebe.

Ряд экспертов утверждает что лишние 2 кг в переноске критичны так как – Во время турбулентности сумка с животным может летать по салону и наносить травмы. – Утяжеленная сумка может мешать эвакуации пассажиров в случае экстренной ситуации. Немного дополню знания экспертов – Пассажира с животным сажают у окна для того, чтобы он с животным не стал помехой в случае экстренной ситуации. Таким образом, сумка никому не блокирует выход. – Во время взлёта, посадки и турбулентности сумка с животным пристёгивается к пассажиру дополнительным ремнём и поэтому не будет летать по салону. В этом случае бОльшую опасность представляет ручная кладь. 4. Существует ли техническая возможность провоза животных весом больше 8 кг в салоне и безопасно ли это? Технически, такая возможность существует и в ряде западных стран, где к безопасности относятся очень строго, допускается перелёт пассажира с животным психологической поддержки независимо от веса. 5. Почему вы отказались сдавать животное в багаж? Для животных существует отдельный отсек и им там комфортно. Наверняка так и есть, но коту было очень плохо на коротком перелёте, я не имел никаких моральных прав отдать его в багаж на 8 часов, с учётом того, что нередки случаи когда животные в багаже погибали. #викторthecat #бронебагаж ПРОДОЛЖЕНИЕ ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Then, his mission to replace his chubby friend with Phoebe went quite well. As he shares, the scales showed an acceptable norm, and the airline employee kindly issued a boarding pass wishing him a happy flight.

Perhaps, if Mikhail didn’t brag about his clever but mischevious deed on social media, he would have saved his flying miles and his passenger’s reputation.

However, the company was not amused by Victor’s story.

According to them, Mikhail violated several airline regulations on transporting animals. They contacted NBC News:

“In connection with several counts of deliberate violation of the air carriage agreement, Aeroflot has decided to exclude this passenger from the Aeroflot Bonus loyalty program. All miles accumulated during his entire participation in the program will be canceled.”

For violating the regulations, the daring passenger was charged 370,000 of his frequent flyer miles. He was also kicked off from the airline’s loyalty program. Mikhail isn’t sorry for what he did, but he doesn’t blame the company either.

“I violated the rules, and the carrier has every right to take action.”

The aircraft company confirmed all the details Mikhail shared on his post by pulling security camera footage from the airport. The chunky cat’s owner says that Viktor has fully recovered from a bad case of air sickness. Now he’s ready to give interviews, as he has become the most famous Russian cat on the Internet.
