The film industry is mourning the loss of actress Kelly Preston, who passed away aged 57 following a quiet battle with breast cancer.
John Travolta, her husband who she had been with for 28 years, confirmed the crushing news on Monday.
“It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that my beautiful wife Kelly has lost her two-year battle with breast cancer,” he wrote on Instagram. “She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many.”
“My family and I will forever be grateful to her doctors and nurses at MD Anderson Cancer Center, all the medical centers that have helped, as well as her many friends and loved ones who have been by her side,” John added. “Kelly’s love and life will always be remembered.”
The “Grease” star announced his stepping off of social media activities during this heartbreaking period to “be there for my children who have lost their mother” and asked people for their understanding.
“Forgive me in advance if you don’t hear from us for a while,” John wrote. “But please know that I will feel your outpouring of love in the weeks and months ahead as we heal.”
Kelly starred in more than 60 productions but is most well known for her parts in “Jerry Maguire,” “Mischief,” and “Twins.”
She leaves behind a husband, whom she married in 1991, and two children, Ella (20) and Benjamin (9).
Kelly and John were also the parents to Jett, who passed away back in 2009 at only 16 years of age after suffering a seizure. He would have been 28 last April.
A spokesperson for the couple told People Magazine that she chose to keep her illness a secret, noting that “she had been undergoing medical treatment for some time.”
