‘Jealous’ Labrador cross mauls newborn twin girls to death

Newborn twin girls were mauled to death by their unexpectedly ‘jealous’ family dog.

At the time, the 29-year-old mother briefly left the room to talk to a neighbor.

The Labrador and American foxhound cross violently attacked the 26-day-old babies. The tragic incident happened last Tuesday, at their family home in Piripá, in the northeastern state of Bahia, Brazil, Daily Mail reports.

Elaine Novais, the mother of the newborns, rushed as she heard her girls Anne and Analú crying from their bedroom. Sadly, it was too late for her to save them.

Previously, Mrs. Novais, a council worker, had struggled to have children for nine years.

As soon as she got into her babies’ room, she pulled the ferocious dog away from the girls, but the Labrador cross had already inflicted fatal damage on their abdomens.

One of their neighbors, who happened to be a nurse, performed first aid on the newborns before they were rushed to Maria Pedreira Barbosa Municipal Hospital. Tragically, one of the babies had died instantly of her wounds, and the other one suffered a cardiac arrest. Unfortunately, the doctors couldn’t save them.

Although the dog was usually ‘docile’, it allegedly had become jealous after the babies were born, as all the attention was focused on them.

As The Sun reveals, a relative to the family shared that the Labrador cross was feeling left out in a way, as it no longer had the attention and affection of its owners provided before. They believe that this could be the reason for the pet’s unexpected violence.

Elaine’s daughters, Anne and Analú, were born a month earlier via cesarean section.

The babies died a day before their due date, mauled by the family dog being only 26-days-old.

Currently, police are investigating the reason behind the animal’s sudden brutality.

Additionally, the council of Piripá, a village with a population of 1,000, expressed their condolences in a social media statement:

“In the face of this immeasurable loss, we express our condolences and sympathy with parents Elaine and Regis, and their friends and family in this moment of sadness and pain. May God comfort your hearts and give you the strength to transform all the pain of this irreparable loss into faith and hope.”

Following the incident, the devastated mother was admitted to the hospital after collapsing from the shock. Sadly, it comes after Elaine and her 32-year-old husband Regis had struggled to have children for nine years.
