‘I was a dead man’: Former Drug Addict Shares Stunning ‘Before and After’ Pics, Gets Back Custody of His Son
A recovering drug addict has inspired many people around the world after he shared his story – along with some incredible photos – that show his shocking transformation.
Single father Jason Wickline from West Virginia, USA, shared his inspiring journey with the world last year. He stressed the importance of one specific moment from years ago when he was arrested for making methamphetamines and charged with child neglect.
The drug addict, who would soon become clean, recalled the painful experience when Child Protective Services took his son, Krystian, away.
“As they were walking Krystian to the car, he turned around to look at me and said, ‘Daddy, I love you and I’ll never forget you,'” Jason told Today. “He was four and thought he would never see me again.”
Jason, who is now 42 thought he would have to go to jail for a number of years.
“I was bawling my eyes out,” he said.
“I had no idea what was going to happen to my kid at that point.”
But the struggling single dad has changed greatly.
Instead of being put behind bars, Jason was offered a month of probation, along with 13 months in rehab. He told Today that since he shook himself off from his addiction he’s never felt more alive.
Jason wanted to inspire others to follow in his footsteps by sharing a series of shocking before-and-after photos.
He looks back on those photos and all he sees is “an empty shell.”
“I’m 5-foot-8 and I weighed 120 pounds,” Jason told Today Health.
“I was a dead man.”
It can clearly be seen that Jason in much better condition today, and his mental state matches his bodily state.
He said he attends regular meetings, volunteers for a number of treatment programs, and has a great relationship with his child, who he has regained custody of.
“Everything is so different now,” Jason said.
“I surround myself with positive people and I try to give back whenever I can. I want people to know that this is a possibility. If I can do it, anyone can.”
Jason has inspired many people with his story, some of whom have shared their own recovery experiences.
One person commented on a photo Jason posted with his son and his girlfriend, Shanna, saying:
“You look great and your journey is inspiring! Keep up the great work! I’ve been sober for 3 months and it feels amazing to be free of alcohol. Thank you for sharing your story!!!”
