On July 13, Connie Frick and Lynn Herman put up missing-dog posters all over Cincinnati, Ohio, after their beloved four-legged friend Gertie went missing. Five days later, their neighbor Vanessa Roland heard strange cries behind her garage. She realized this was the terrier mix that had gotten trapped and couldn’t escape on her own.

Roland immediately alerted Frick and Herman that she had found their pupper. The couple found out that Gertie had fallen down a gap behind the garage and was wedged between it and another wall.

Thankfully, the Cincinnati Fire Department was willing to help.

As per Daily Mail, firefighter Jenny Adkins was filmed smashing the concrete wall and rescuing the poor creature from its five-day-long nightmare.

In the video, the heroic firefighter can be seen using a sledgehammer to break through the wall and then pulling Gertie to safety. She then takes the canine to her loving owners Connie and Lynn.

Speaking to WXIX-TV, Ms. Frick said:

“It was just so sweet, just wagging that little nub tail, and she was just so, she was so excited.”
