Experts Explain: If You Notice These 9 Signs He or She Is Probably Falling Head Over Heels For You

He (She) loves me… He (She) loves me not…

Admit it or not we all have turned and tossed in bed thinking about the super sweet guy (or girl) we are having a crush on.

And also have spent hours and days wondering if they feel the same for us.

But what is that thing which makes us feel butterflies in the stomach? And how can we tell that they are falling for us?

Here is the opinion of the relationship expert and marriage attorney, Vikki Ziegler:

“After spending time with someone, even just for five minutes or an hour, a connection or spark is usually lit when making eye contact or conversation. Sometimes one person may notice a special or unique quality and acknowledge it with a, ‘Wow, that’s awesome,’ or ‘I like what you’re saying.’ Other times, a person may give other compliments — anything from ‘You have a great smile’ to ‘I like your take on life.’”

In Ziegler’s opinion, these are just a few of the indications that someone has a crush on you. Everyone has unique traits that differentiate them from everyone else. And when someone takes notice of yours, they may be interested in you.

So how do you know if your friend or crush sees you like someone extraordinary?

Here are 9 signs that reveal he or she is probably falling head over heels for you:

1. They seek eye contact with you.

We all know the saying that eyes are the window of the soul. This is even truer when it comes to our feelings whether good or bad. Hence, you can tell by someone’s eyes what are their opinions for you. For example, avoiding eye contact or decreasing the size of the pupils means that this person doesn’t have a positive attitude toward you.

On the other hand, if someone likes you, they would seek continuous eye contact with you. Here is the opinion of the relationship expert and author, Cindee Bartholomew:

“When you’re introduced, they’ll look directly into your eyes with a level of intensity that makes your heart aware. They will often continue to stare at you even after you look away and when you look again at them, they will smile again. So if you notice that they’re constantly trying to keep your gaze, that’s a perfect sign they’re really into you.”

2. He or she remembers things about you.

One more sign proving that you are the object of another person’s interest is when the person remembers things you’ve said earlier on (or even a long time ago) and can reference them later. Coree Schmitz, Professional Matchmaker at Tawkify, confirms that:

“In today’s society where being present in a conversation is one of the hardest things to do, giving a new person full attention during [a conversation] is one of the highest compliments,” Schmitz says. “To me that says, of all the 1000 things I could be thinking about right now, I prefer to hear and think about what you have to say genuinely.”

3. Imitate you.

It’s true when people say that imitation is the purest form of flattery. Alyssa Bunn, Professional Matchmaker at Tawkify, explains that such behavior is typical when we have a date with people who we feel attracted to after meeting for the first time.

“You may notice your date ‘mirroring’ or subconsciously copying your body language, gestures, speech patterns, or attitude,” Bunn explains. “If your date is interested, you’ll get the energy you’re giving off. So it’s important to keep your verbal and nonverbal body language in check. If you’re closed, negative, or not fully present, you may squash the romantic spark before it even has a chance to emerge.”

4. Want to know more about you

Kimia Mansoor, Professional Matchmaker, explains that:

“If someone thinks you’re someone special, they’ll be curious about you. “They’ll try to learn as much as possible. They want to know more about you but might be too nervous to ask just yet. They might seem quiet, shy, or reserved, but they are listening and paying attention to all the little details.”

5. Laugh at your jokes.

Laughter has been known to improve relationships and also is thought to be a sign of approval. But everybody has their idea of what’s funny and not. So as a marriage therapist, Kimberly Hershenson, says:

“If someone finds you funny early on, they likely think you’re special.”

6. Pay you a lot of attention.

A telltale sign that someone thinks your special is how much attention they give on you compared to others.

“They don’t want to talk to anyone else,” Hershenson says. “If they were around you the entire time and didn’t bother to meet other people or strike up a conversation with anyone else, it’s a sign they think you’re special.”

7. They don’t waste time.

Usually, if someone is into you, they wouldn’t be wasting their time and wouldn’t miss the chance to ask for your number or invite you to go out. Sophy Singer, Professional Matchmaker, also confirm this theory:

“When someone thinks you’re special, they strike while the iron is hot. Before the date (or random social encounter) is over, they’re already testing the waters by making plans.” While Singer says they might not ask you right then and there, they will make a mention of something fun that the two of you might enjoy together in the future.”

8. Become jealous.

However, this is not always the case. Sometimes it turns out that our crush is just not ready for a serious commitment so they would gravitate around in the friend zone. Still, as people say:

“Three things can’t be hidden: coughing, poverty, and love.”

Which means that if a person likes you, sooner or later it should become evident by their behavior.

A possible sign of stronger feeling is if your friend feels hugely jealous of you when you are in the company of someone else. Although there are many different reasons someone to be jealous, there’s high chance it’s because they like you a lot or even love you. Here is the advice of Diana Doyle, couple counselor:

” They might love you – but might not be ready to commit. They might not be ready to take up the responsibility of yours. It’s like you want a home but cannot afford it. For some reason he or she is helpless. Ask that guy or girl what the problem is, try solving it. The longer the behavior stays like this, it won’t take you anywhere.”

9. He or she relates to your experience

“Mutual understanding is essential in all kinds of relationships, especially in romantic ones.

“If someone thinks you’re special, they’ll want to showcase how similar they are to you or how they can empathize with you,” Samantha Campbell, Professional Matchmaker at Tawkify.

So when you tell a story, whatever it might be, they would probably try to link what you say and their experience.

“Whether it’s conscious or not, they’re trying to say, ‘Hey, I get you,’ and hoping that you feel the connection, too,” she says.

Although experts think these signs could clue you in whether your crush is into you or not, we have to admit it is hard to know what another person is thinking or feeling.

So, give your relationship time and see what comes out of it. Don’t try to hurry things or put too much pressure on the other person. And don’t forget that as Richard Bach once said:

“If you love someone, set them free. If they come back they’re yours; if they don’t, they never were.”

Have you noticed any of these signs in the behaviour of the person you like or love?
