“When life will gives you lemons, don’t cry, get up and make lemonade.”
In my youth I struggled with depression. I felt too deeply for things that actually, in the end didn’t matter. Stress and anxiety ruled my life and I always ended up being the one at a loss. Life 10, me 0. It wasn’t until I moved out of home and started to mature that I realized the importance of not having an emotional reaction to everything.
Looking back to the days of my depression I now know what my problem was. I gave way too many f*cks to situations that didn’t matter.
I saw myself as a victim of life rather than a victor, letting people, stress and situations get the best of me. If only I had known what I know now, I would have saved many tears for moments that actually deserved them. Luckily, we mature through experience and hard earned lessons, and in the end we realize that life is a big classroom.
In my maturity I have learned three very valuable lessons; somethings just aren’t worth the stress and energy, life is what you make it and you can choose how many f*cks any given situation needs.
Here are, in my opinion 5 things you should stop caring so damn much about:
1. Other People’s Opinions
Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. Holding onto and having an emotional reaction to the opinions of others is a one way ticket to stressville. People will always have something to say about something. The key is to live and let live.
2. Gossip
Gossip occupies small minds. When you mature, you realize that there are more important things in life then trashing and speaking ill of people behind their backs. Mature people are too busy chasing goals and living life to the fullest to worry about gossip.
3. Failure
A mature mind knows that without failure there is no success. Don’t allow the emotions that come with failure to govern your outlook on the task at hand. Dust yourself off and try again!
4. Social Media Fame
Being famous on social media means nothing unless you’re getting paid for it. So if you aren’t making money from it stop worrying about how many likes you’re going to get on your most recent breakfast picture, or how many followers you have.
5. Material Possessions
Another thing that comes with maturity is the knowledge that material gain and possession is not the key to happiness. Happiness is self made and cultivated within. Want a life filled with happiness? Start by collecting more memories and moments. When we leave this earth we will leave with the memories and moments we’ve created, all the other stuff will stay behind.
In the end, life is what you made it be. Stop wasting your time and emotions on people and situations that have no real value. Stop sweating the small stuff and start living. Remember to live and let live, celebrate the good things and leave the negative things out. Focus on the good and the good will focus on you.
