A Boston-based man named Billy Flynn Gadbois decided to surprise his ex-wife, Heather, on her birthday by bringing her flowers and cards with his children.
He also helped the kids prepare a special breakfast for her.
Although the two are divorced and Heather has since announced her engagement to her new husband to be, Billy firmly believes they should still keep a healthy relationship, and that, of course, is part of the reason why his Facebook post went viral.
After he got asked why he continues doing such things, he said that the question annoys him because he is raising two little men and they need to be shown the right example of how to treat women.
He continued by saying that when the kids see the way their dad treats their mom it will help shape the way they see women and relationships when they grow up.
“So if you aren’t modeling good relationship behaviour for your kids, get your sh*t together. Rise above it and be an example. This is bigger than you. Raise good men. Raise strong women. Please. The world needs them, now more than ever”, he says.
Billy also added that it wasn’t always easy for him and his wife to overcome their issues, and they had to learn how to deal with the anger and resentment they had for one another. Despite it not being an easy task, they had to do it for the sake of their children.
He finishes by saying: “We’ve worked hard over time to establish our boundaries and find ways to manage our interactions so our own issues are minimalised or left at home when it comes to the kids. It’s an ongoing process but you can see a huge difference in the happiness and confidence and security of the boys since we started working at it,”
