Every now and then we hear stories of kindness that go beyond all expectations.
Time and time again random acts of generosity and compassion have found their way into our hearts. Needless to say, in these difficult times, it is even more crucial to bring them to the forefront so that they can inspire others.
And this is definitely one of the most inspiring ones we’ve come across. The story of an 89-year-old pizza delivery man who was given a $12,000 surprise tip by one of his regular customers.
Delrin Newey was left in shock last week after the Valdez family went to his home in Utah to give him a present.
“How do I ever say thank you? I don’t know what to say,” said Newey as he started crying tears of joy after being given a check for $12,000.
Despite his old age, Newey still makes runs for Papa John’s for 30 hours a week.
He said he started working again when he found himself struggling financially due to his low social security payments.
An incredible tip
The mission to give Newey the incredible tip all started when the Valdez family, who have been his customers for a long time, started recording his deliveries and uploaded them to social media. And shortly after, he became the internet’s favorite pizza delivery man.
“It’s insane. Everybody loves him,” Carlos Valdez said.
The family drew over 53,000 to their page and started to get comments asking why Newey was still out working at his age.
That is when they decided to set up a fundraizer and do some good.
They were able to raise $12,000 and Newey was simply stunned when he received the check!
“I don’t know what to say, except thank you,” he said, upon receiving the money.
“He needed this. I’m just glad we could help him,” said Carlos.
“We just need to treat people with kindness and respect the way he does. He stole our hearts.”
