Following the tragic death of famous East Coast rapper Earl Simmons, known in the industry as DMX, scammers began establishing fake fundraisers claiming his family needs money to cover the funeral costs.

As TMZ reports, “DMX’s family is NOT strapped for cash, and is NOT asking the public to chip in for burial expenses.”

According to the outlet, members of Simmons’ relatives claimed one of the most outrageous rumors about the rapper’s passing is that his inner circle is raising money to help pay for his funeral. While this is completely untrue, the family also wants to warn people not to fall for suchlike fraud campaigns, which have nothing to do with them.

They assure that they know some schemers use DMX’s name to raise money. What they want is for his fans to be alert in case they stumble upon a fundraiser claiming his family is in need.

Another thing DMX’s family wants people to know is that they do not sell any of his merch at the moment.

TMZ sources claim that at this time, the rapper’s relatives are not authorizing any sales of his merchandise. In other words, they are not profiting from any of the products being currently marketed.

Furthermore, there has been a rumor about Jay-Z and Beyoncé buying DMX’s masters for $10 million circulating social media. According to the story, the couple wanted the profits to go to his children. However, the late rapper’s family busted that rumor as well.

Earl Simmons died at age 50, following a week-long hospitalization after suffering an overdose. While in the hospital, DMX was in a vegetative state, with virtually no brain function. On April 9, after being put on life support, the rapper passed away as his organs began failing.  A representative for his family said:

“We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50 years old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days. Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end.”

Fans of the rap icon created a makeshift memorial outside the hospital he was being treated during the last days of his life. Simmons will also be honored in his hometown of Yonkers, NY, where Mayor Mike Spano suggested his family could hold a public memorial at its famous raceway.
