Broken dog runs 125 miles through Siberia to find the owners who rejected her

The young and wounded dog was ‘in tears’ when she was found after walking through the Siberian forest.

A bull mastiff named Manora (nicknamed Maru) was bought from breeder Alla Morozova in Novosibirsk, Siberia by a couple when she was five-months-old.

She traveled approximately 125 miles to go back home after her owner cold-heartedly abandoned her just six months after bringing her home. The owner had called the kennel saying she no longer wanted the dog because she was “allergic”.

Maru was put on a train with an attendant so she could be sent back to the breeder.

The train ride, however, had been scary for Maru and even caused her to have a panic attack when the train stopped at Achinsk, 125 miles away from her home.

“The dog jumped on the compartment door, kicked the handle to open it, and almost threw the conductor out of the way. She jumped out like a bullet,” Morozova told the Siberian Times. “When the door opened to the platform, she jumped out into the night.”

Not understanding that she had been abandoned, Maru desperately wanted to go back home.

Even though the owners were informed by Morozova that she had been missing, they did not want to get involved and refused to look for her.

“They were not even upset,” Morozova said “That angered me. The owners were not upset at all, like, well, the dog is lost and that’s all right. That was their answer,” They gave the dog away and the load fell off their shoulders.”

And this was when Morozova started looking for Maru.

48 hours later, she found the dog looking for her owners near her former home.

“She had walked and run for two and a half days. Luckily, neither bears ate her, nor wolves chewed her up,” Morozova said.

Maru was in ill shape when she was found and even looked like she had been crying.

“Volunteers found her in an industrial zone. The dog was very tired. She was lame, her paws were broken. The pads were damaged. Her muzzle was broken. Maru fell from the railway embankment,” said Morozova.

“She did not run to Novosibirsk, she wanted to go back where she lived. It is surprising that she went the right way,” she added.

Maru has since been treated for her injuries and reunited with her biological mother and father in Novosibirsk.
