Bihar, India: A boy whose body was attacked by a rare tumor, has had 82 removed in a 3-hour-long medical procedure.
17-year-old Nitish Kumar has suffered from complex odontoma, a jaw tumor, for 5 years. The harshness of the condition left him with no other choice but to get an operation done to fix his jaw, which led to the removal of 82 teeth that were lodged inside two large lumps.
Nitish had 50 more teeth than the standard number for a grown adult.
But the journey toward relief was a harsh one as the teenager was unable to get the treatment he needed for years.
Thankfully, experts at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in Bihar were able to give him a date for surgery. According to Dr. Manish Mandal, the boy’s condition reached this dire state over the years due to lack of treatment.
Before the operation, Nitish’s jaw was extremely swollen and his face somewhat disfigured due to the extra teeth.
Doctors also took photos of the teeth they removed from the depths of his mouth.
Nitish’s nightmare finally came to an end as all the extra teeth were taken out in a 3-hour-long surgery.
