7 Weird Thoughts Every Introvert Has After Socializing

“I wish, as well as everybody else, to be perfectly happy; but like everybody else, it must
be in my own way.” ~ Jane Austen

Do you ever find yourself having weird thoughts as an introvert?

Do you sometimes feel out of place being a quiet person? It’s like the world tells you being less than overly social is simply unacceptable. Extroverts often make you feel inadequate for preferring to be quiet.

If that fits your description, you may recognize some of the following weird thoughts introverts often find themselves having.

1. “I’ll Only Come If I Can Go Home Whenever I Feel Like It”

We introverts usually like to have a plan of escape when it comes to parties. Actually, this is the key reason why some of us like to drive our own vehicle when we go to such events. Especially when it comes to parties we did not want to attend in the first place.

2. “Don’t ask me why I’m so quiet”

We hate it when people ask us why we’re being so quiet. We’re just tired of people coming to us with this annoying question time and time again. We are quiet because we feel like it. Why is that so hard to understand?

3. “And this is meant to be more fun than reading?”

Sure, extroverts enjoy reading books too. But it can be said that only introverts know what it’s like to start daydreaming about the great book they left home when they find themselves in the midst of a birthday party, a loud club, or some other “cool” event that young people are meant to enjoy.

4. “Maybe if I’m quick enough I can jump from the bathroom right into my room before my flatmates notice me”

Of course, not all introverts feel that they have to hide from their flatmates, but many of us strongly feel this way. The truth is, introverts often avoid talking even to perfectly decent people just to avoid the agony that is small talk.

5. “I wish my neighbors weren’t so chatty”

It’s not that we introverts want our neighbors to not be friendly to us. We all want kind neighbors. But if you’re even slightly introverted, then you know there aren’t many things more annoying than having the kind of neighbors who chat you up every time you cross paths – or, even worse, drop by unannounced.

6. “I need to be in the company of likeminded people, but I don’t really want to talk to anyone right now”

This is why many introverts are very selective about who they let into their private circle. Because it isn’t always easy to be friends with or date an introvert, especially if you’re an extrovert.

On some days, we just want to do our own thing and paint something or watch a movie, but that doesn’t mean we don’t need to have other human beings around while we do these things. It is a strange kind of loneliness that extroverts might not relate to.

7. “I hope there’ll be a pet I can play with at that party”

Again, introverts don’t dislike people. We like people a lot but feel more at ease having animals around than people we don’t know most of the time. Pets are not judgemental, they don’t talk about boring topics, and they surely won’t expect you to snap photos of them. You won’t have to engage in small talk with them either.
