People say that having a child teaches you many lessons about life, love, and what it truly means to be human. But even if you don’t have one of your own, being an aunt can also teach you many valuable things.

1. There’s nothing more heartwarming than seeing your niece or nephew for the first time
It’s unlike anything you’ve ever felt before.
In an instant, this precious little being will become one of the most important parts of your life and you will unlock a level of love you never thought could exist inside you.
2. You become a kid person
If you’ve never been a kid person somehow it stops mattering once you get to know your niece/nephew and realize kids are simply the best.
Now when you stand in line at the shop and a little kid smiles at you, you just get filled with that fluffy feeling of pure joy. Congratulations, you are officially becoming a kid person.
3. You learn to be patient
A child is a child no matter if it’s yours or somebody else’s. If you are going to be spending time with your nephew or niece, you will have to learn to be patient when they make you watch the Lion King for the 50th time with them.
4. Suddenly you come to the realization that you and your siblings are not the youngest in the family anymore
Thankfully this little angel – this bundle of joy – is the best person you can be passing the button to because you know that one day they will make you proud.
5. You start daydreaming about becoming a mom yourself
Even if you have never wanted to have children, you will find yourself having moments where you think ‘Maybe they’re not as bad as I thought they were’ and ‘I would make a great mother’.

Yeah, that cool aunt you imagined yourself to be will not make you so cool if you’re being reckless. You are still a responsible adult and have to do everything you can to make sure that this child stays out of harm’s way. And of course, this applies to most things in life. When you are in the company of your niece or nephew, you see the world through the lens of innocence. Everything seems wondrous and interesting. And when you hold them and they’re smiling and giggling at you, it feels like the most amazing thing that has ever happened to you.
