5 Ways to Make Life Less Complicated

life less complicated
It’s complicated…
How often do you find yourself uttering those words? How often do you spend trapped in the countless thoughts of your mind?

Learning how to step out of the drama of “it’s complicated” can help you gain clarity, reduce stress and make you feel more at ease with your decisions.

Our emotions and our ego have a habit of creeping up on us, making us feel like victims or that we need to go over and over the particular events of our story to make us feel validated. This creates a complexity that can be both overwhelming and unnecessary.

When you find yourself in this state of mind, stop, step out of it and ask yourself these 5 questions:

1.) What Do I Really Want?

Forget about what other people are saying and ask yourself-  what do I truly desire for this situation? Take a moment to reflect on what you really want away from the influences of other people. Then work on creating healthy boundaries to honor yourself and your feelings. At the end of the day it is your life, don’t sacrifice your truth by trying to please others.

2.) What are the Facts?

What are you left with when you take all the emotions out of the situation? Often our emotions can twist and fabricate events, making them seem worse than the actually are. Instead, try to look at the facts without judgement.  This helps to offer a different perspective and get clearer about the situation.

3.) What Do You Need to Take Responsibility For?

While we may not be able to control others or the events around us, we can control our attitude and actions. Accepting that you are responsible for your behaviour, and your choices can move you to a powerful place of action and clarity. Before you make any decisions, ask yourself- what choices am I willing to take responsibility for?

4.) Will this Matter in 6 Months or 1 Year?

More often than not, the most complex problems have the simplest solutions. Want to find out if you fit into that category? Ask yourself if this issue will really matter in 6 months or even a year from now. This will help put some space between your situation and your thoughts. Creating space can allow you to separate more  from the event and can move you closer to clarity.

5.) Is this Worth My Time?

Your time is both precious and limited, do you really want to waste it doing anything other than owning and living your truth? When you focus on your truth you loose the drama and messiness of a situation and you focus on doing what is right for you. Find out what needs to be done and then take the necessary steps to make it happen.
