Relationship expert reveals the 7 top questions to ask on a first date

Are you wondering how to keep the conversation flowing on a first date? This relationship expert has some great tips on how to do it!

Relationship expert James Thomas, from Condoms.uk, has come up with a set of questions perfect to ask on a first date, as per Unilad. Not only do they help you avoid awkward silence moments, but they also show you are truly interested in the person you are dating.

Here are the 7 questions you should ask on a first date, according to the specialist:

1. “What’s your favorite way to relax?”

According to the expert, this topic provides “insight into their characteristics.” You would be surprised how much you can learn about someone’s personality by asking them about their hobbies, holidays, and how they spend their free time.

2. “What was the last show you binge-watched?”

Just like the previous one, it gives you clarity on what kind of person you are dealing with. What’s more, they would see you are really captivated by them, and you want to know more about their lives. Besides, people love to be asked about things they enjoy, so the conversation would probably go smoothly without any uncomfortable pauses.

3. “Do you have a signature dish you love to cook?”

The third question from the expert’s set helps you find more about your date’s tastes. Even if they don’t enjoy cooking, they would surely mention some of their favorite foods. And in case they decide to mention their favorite restaurants, you would have ideas for your following dates.

4. “What is something you want to learn?”

A question like that lets you know more about your date’s aspirations and allows you to “see if their interests match with yours alongside their current priorities.”

5. “If the world was ending tomorrow, what would you do?”

As we live in nearly apocalyptic times due to the coronavirus pandemic, a topic like that should be perfectly normal to discuss with the person you are interested in. It gives you more detailed information about your date’s personality and sheds light on their true colors.

6. “What is the weirdest thing you’ve brought on Amazon?”

Online shopping is not a new thing, so discussing your purchasing habits could be a great subject for a first date.

7. “What is the best thing that has happened to you this week?”

Thomas describes the last question of his set as a “nice way to break the ice.” It reveals whether the person you’re with values the little things or big events are more important to them. And if they answer “Meeting you” then you would know for sure they are as much drawn to you as you are to them.

Of course, make sure you don’t turn the date into an inquiry. You don’t have to ask all of these questions in a particular order to make the conversation flow. Though, you can use them when in need of a backup to avoid awkward silence or to let your date know you are actually eager to know more about their personality.

However, when the date is going badly, and there’s really nothing you can do, Thomas recommends being honest:

“There is no shame in being honest, but never leave unannounced or change your attitude. If the meal or round of drinks has come to an end simply ask for the bill, address the situation and call it a night.”
