Real-life Sleeping Beauty: girl sleeps for up to TWO WEEKS at a time

This real-life Sleeping Beauty falls asleep for nearly two weeks at a time.

The fairy tale of the Sleeping Beauty Aurora, who fell asleep for a hundred years and only a true love’s kiss was able to wake her up is coming true. An Indonesian girl named Echa falls asleep for several days at a time.

The 17-year-old girl from Banjarmasin first appeared in the media in 2017, when she slept for nearly two weeks straight. Since then, Echa has experienced two similar episodes, where she didn’t wake up for about 36 hours, as Oddity Central reports.

However, at the beginning of April this year, the Indonesian Sleeping Beauty fell into a deep sleep for about seven days. When her parents took her to a local hospital, her tests came out fine, but she slept for two more days.

Doctors suppose the girl is suffering from hypersomnia.

Hypersomnia is described as a neurological disorder of excessive time spent sleeping or excessive sleepiness. According to Healthline, people with hypersomnia have difficulty functioning during the day because they’re frequently tired, which can affect concentration and energy levels.

Speaking to Tribunn.com, Mulyadi, Echa’s father, explained that he had tried to wake her up several times, but he did not succeed. He also said that his daughter is able to eat and chew in her sleep only when he and her mother feed her.

Although the Sleeping Beauty Syndrome has no known cure, the girl’s parents are hopeful that her symptoms can at least be better managed, so she could have a normal life.
