A six-month-old baby’s mom was criticized and defended by people on the web after sharing a clip of her daughter getting her ears pierced.
Marisa Carpineta, who works as a hairstylist, often shares videos on TikTok, and this week she made a video in which she advises her fans to ‘stop using piercing guns on your baby’.
Her suggestion is for parents who want their children’s ears pierced to ‘get them pierced at a tattoo/piercing shop’. The mother’s video shows how she did that when she decided to get earrings for her baby.
She captioned the video ‘6 months calls for ear peircings [sic]’, and it shows her holding her daughter on a chair while a worker uses a needle to pierce a hole in her ear lobes.
The young baby is visibly distressed as she is being held down and eventually starts crying and kicking. But as soon as it was all over, Marisa shared another video of her baby looking happier, writing: ‘happy baby’.

The mother faced mixed reactions from people online.
One angry person said:
“This should be illegal. It should be the baby’s choice when they can make one. Putting them through that pain with wanting earrings is awful.”
Another posted:
“This makes my skin crawl. Or don’t inflict unnecessary pain on a baby!?”
Another defended the mother, saying:
“I’m so glad I got mine as a baby… you don’t remember it so why are y’all so pressed about it.”
The mother defended her decision in another clip she shared the next day, where she wrote ‘she literally has no idea what happened lol’.
The video showed her saying ‘good morning’ to her baby as she smiled at her in her little bed.
