As Newsner reveals, the man in the adorable bear suit is Jesse Larion, a 33-year-old Californian man. Larios is on a journey to help raise funds to donate to a foundation selected by his fans. His adventure is taking him on a 400mi(644km) walk from the City of Angels all the way to San Francisco in his eye-catching teddy bear costume.
Bearsun’s quest started on the morning of April 12, in LA’s Little Tokyo, CNN reports. By Thursday, April 15, he was already 100mi(160km) in, having reached Bakersfield, CA.
While on the road, Bearsun is camping the entire time instead of staying in hotels.
One of the best things about Larios’ mission is that he wants everyone who follows his journey to be actively involved. For instance, fans can access his location at any point directly from his Instagram account.

In the GoFundMe page he created for his benevolent cause, he also said he wants his supporters to choose the association they want the money he raises to go to.
“I want to hear everyone’s voice on what nonprofit or charity we should donate these funds to! Let’s go!”
Bearsun is hoping to raise $10,000.
To reach his goal, Larios asks his fans to “donate what you can & help us get this going.”
His adventure time is being filmed by a photographer, who documents the curious challenges the giant teddy bear goes through on the road to SF.

Bearsun’s initial plan was to reach his destination within a weak, but he faced quite a few hurdles on the way. Road closures and rocky mountain rails elongated his travels, and he now hopes he could make it by Wednesday, April 21. Larios shares the important thing is not when he would get to the Bay Area, but just that he does.
“This was a bear-y unique situation.”
While walking towards his destination, Bearsun had a close encounter with the Santa Clarita Valley police. Amused by his cause, they tweeted:
“This was a bear-y unique situation… We wish him the best of luck on his adventure!”
This was a bear-y unique situation. You may have seen a large teddy bear walking through town. One of our deputies got to meet the individual inside the bear & learned his goal is to complete a walk from Los Angeles to San Francisco. Bearsun first appeared in 2019, when he ran the LA Marathon.
Speaking about his idea to run the marathon in his bear suit, Larios shares:
“I had this goofy idea of just putting on the suit and trying to complete the marathon without ever running a marathon (before) — another impulsive decision that I made.
This is what I want to do. I just want to run marathons in my bear suit. It makes other people happy too, and I’m all about laughter and smiles.”
