“It’s a really good catch” – Bizarre fish with “human” teeth caught in North Carolina

North Carolina fisherman caught an unusual fish with bizarre “human” teeth.

When Nathan Martin was heading to Jennette’s Pier, a fishing destination in Nag’s Head, North Carolina, he was hoping he would have some quiet fishing time. However, he experienced something a lot more interesting.

As per Newsner, a bizarre water creature suddenly ended up at the opposite end of Martin’s fishing rod. The odd being was a rare sheepshead fish with several rows of human-like teeth. Apparently, it uses them to crush the hard shells of its prey, including clams, oysters, and crabs. As for its name, the fish got it from its uncanny resemblance to the ruminant mammals.

According to BBC, Martin had been hoping to catch a sheepshead fish when he came face-to-face with a “mouth full of teeth”. Recalling the surprising moment, he said:

“It’s a very good fight when you’re fighting on the line, it’s a really good catch, and it tastes very good.”

Social media users went insane when Jennette’s Pier posted pictures of the bizarre creature.

One commented:

“I’m done. Nope, you have gone too far nature. Way too far!”

Another questioned:

“[I] wonder if they have toothaches😖

A third added:

“It looks like my uncle Phil with cotton mouth after too many beers and too much talking.”

Science ABC describes the sheepshead fish as “a deep-bodied, compressed marine fish with sharp dorsal spines.”

What’s more, it usually reaches 10-20 inches, but can grow to be as large as 35 inches in some cases! Besides, the curious water being “has a hard mouth and stubby teeth that bear a striking resemblance to human teeth.”
