Empaths are known for having some of the biggest hearts, and for their intuition. But there are a few things they try to hide from everyone.
Although they are just like you or me, empaths are also unique in a variety of ways.
As Dr. Judith Orloff explains, “Intuition is the filter through which they experience the world. Empaths are naturally giving, spiritually attuned, and good listeners. If you want heart, empaths have got it. Through thick and thin, they’re there for you, world-class nurturers.” These are some of the better traits, but there is always a downside.
Empaths can also absorb the emotions and energy of others, which can be quite harmful if they are around negative people.
For those of us who have empaths in our lives, we might not notice everything that is going on with them, so we need to pay attention. It is likely that the empath won’t go looking for help when they face a problem in their life, mostly because they are busy being the support for everyone else around them. Empaths are very good at hiding the fact they are suffering. In fact, they are usually hiding a few things from you.
Empaths Will Always Try To Hide These 9 Traits From The World
1. The Emotions Of Others
If you pay close attention, you will notice that empaths mirror your emotions. If you are having a bad day, so are they. If you’re day is great and you’re smiling, so are they. In the same token, they also feel the pain and suffering we go through. It’s unlikely you will hear an empath mention this though, because society likes to make them seem crazy.
2. Their Own Emotions
Empaths are natural born healers, and they spend a great deal of time and energy on helping the people in their lives with whatever troubles face them. Their sensitivity makes them excellent givers of advice, because they can literally feel what you are going through. The downside to this is that the empath never has time to properly deal with their own emotions, and tend to push them aside “for the greater good.”
3. They Can Not Survive Without Nature
It might sound odd, and that’s probably why they don’t mention it very often- if at all. Empaths must have some kind of natural element near them, or they simply can’t survive in the modern world. Nature recharges them, and helps them to recenter. Without it, the chaos and drama they endure every day would eat them alive.
4. Empaths Need Time To Be Alone
They aren’t being rude, and they don’t want to seem like they are pushing you aside, but empaths really do need time alone. The energy around them at all times can be quite draining, and if they don’t have time to themselves, in their own space, they will feel completely depleted.
5. They Know When You Are Lying
Chances are, the empath won’t say it directly to your face (they are far too insightful for that), but if you lie to them, they know it. You could be the best liar in the entire world and you still couldn’t pull the wool over their eyes. The worst thing you could do would be to lie to an empath- not only did you break their trust forever, but you’ve physically caused them pain. You can be honest with them, they will understand and forgive…but lying breaks their heart.
6. They Give Until They Break
An empath has a hard time saying no. Someone they care about can ask them for a favour, and they will drop everything and help them. Even if you don’t ask for help, they will offer to do whatever they can to ease your pain. They take on other people’s problems and suffering, and by trying to help them, often take on far too much. An empath will give until they break, so if you notice them starting to wear thin, try mentioning it to them.
7. Negative People Run To Them
Empaths have a target on their back, placed there by negative and toxic people. They are the ones who need the most help, and they know an empath is a willing adversary. After all, rarely will an empath turn someone away simply because they have a damaged past. Don’t we all have a bit of turmoil behind us? Empaths don’t like to talk about this very much because it reminds them of their own personal mistakes in judging character. What they need to remember is their strength in handling those situations.
8. Stress Comes Easily
The best thing about being an empath is feeling everything with such fullness, but it can be a double-edged sword. Because they feel the emotions of others, they also feel their stresses and worries. It can all be overwhelming, and if they don’t practice self-care and boundaries, an empath will likely have some kind of emotional breakdown.
9. Empaths Know Things You Don’t
They are highly intuitive, and can sense when something isn’t quite right. They are excellent judges of character (yes, even when dealing with narcissists) and know who to trust. Empaths feel things and understand things that most of us have no idea about. This is probably why they don’t talk about it very much.
Empaths are incredibly gifted individuals, who experience the highs and lows of life on a more intense level than the rest of the world.
