A Minnesota Trooper Pulled Over Doctor For Speeding And Gave Her His Protective Masks

A trooper from the state of Minnesota touched a doctor’s heart by turning what should have been a ticket for speeding into a soulful act of kindness.

On March 21 a cardiologist at a coronavirus quarantine facility in Duluth named Dr. Sarosh Ashraf Janjua, was stopped for speeding by Trooper Brian Schwartz.

However, instead of issuing a speeding ticket, Brian gave Sarosh five N95 masks for protection against the coronavirus – as well as a warning to drive slower next time.

“I burst into tears. And though it may just have been the cold wind, I think he teared up a little as well, before wishing me well and walking away,” Sarosh wrote on Facebook.

“This complete stranger, who owed me nothing and is more on the front lines than I am, shared his precious masks with me, without my even asking.”

A Minnesota State trooper pulled me over on I-35 this past weekend for driving above the speed limit. When he saw my Massachusetts driver’s license, he asked me what I was doing all the way out in Minnesota, so I told him I travel here every month for my work as a locums cardiologist. He went back to his patrol car to look up my license, and when he returned, quite firmly told me it was very irresponsible of me to be speeding, especially since I would not only take up resources if I got into an accident, but would also not be in a position to help patients.Feeling thoroughly chastised, I waited for him to write me a ticket. Instead, he told me he was going to let me off with a warning. As I sputtered to apologize and say thank you, he reached in to hand me what I assumed was my license back. It wasn’t until my hand had closed around what he was giving me that its unexpected bulkiness drew my eyes to it. Five N95 masks, from the supply the state had given him for his protection. I burst into tears. And though it may just have been the cold wind, I think he teared up a little as well, before wishing me well and walking away. Like all healthcare workers and emergency responders around the world, I have felt afraid of not having adequate protective equipment, and in my darkest moments, have worried about what would happen if I fell sick far from home. This complete stranger, who owed me nothing and is more on the front lines than I am, shared his precious masks with me, without my even asking. The veil of civilization may be thin, but not all that lies behind it is savage. We are going to be ok.———————————————————————UPDATE: Thank you, Anderson Cooper @ CNN for having me on Anderson Cooper 360 to share the story of Minnesota State Trooper Brian J Schwartz’ kindness. https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/30/us/minnesota-trooper-n95-masks-doctor-trnd/index.html

Posted by Sarosh Ashraf Janjua on Monday, March 30, 2020

The trooper felt it was his duty to give Sarosh his N-95 masks after spotting “what appeared to be two used N95 masks in Ashraf’s purse that he assumed she was reusing,” the Minnesota State Patrol revealed to CNN.

The N95 masks that medical workers use to shield themselves against COVID-19 are reportedly in frighteningly short supply. Health care personnel are forced to use worn masks, risking getting infected while at work.

Sarosh herself said that she was “afraid” of getting infected, just like many others in the health care field are feeling at the moment.

“Thank you to Sarosh for her hard work and dedication,” the Minnesota State Patrol wrote on Facebook. “Troopers are working hard during the pandemic and are thinking about all the first responders who are caring for Minnesotans during this critical time.”

And while the current virus crisis has certainly changed the way we live, the hearts of people like this kind Trooper remind us that nothing can stand in the way of human unity in desperate times.

“I think we are all just hanging on to something that makes us feel safe,” Sarosh told CNN. “Somehow, for Americans, that something has become N95 masks and toilet paper. Trooper Schwartz’ act of kindness became my something.”

Needless to say, there were plenty of positive messages directed to the hero in this story.

Here are some of their comments.

One user said:

“One of the positives this pandemic has brought out in people is the overwhelming goodness and kind hearts inherent in so many. Thank you, Trooper Schwartz, for your thoughtfulness and thank you, Dr Janjua, for letting the world know. And a very heartfelt thank you to both for the jobs you do every day, now and after we get this pandemic together. From Tallahassee FL”

Another wrote:

“Thank you for your gift of love. We are praying for you and your police station and all of the officers also, as you also put your lives on the line. This is how we get through this. We all come together as the United States and help each other, not by division. Be blessed, and again thank you. Praying someone else passes it forward and replenishes you with masks.”

A third said:

“Thank for gifting those preciious masks. I’m an RN in an ER and we are reusing our masks. I pray more factories step up to manufature proper PPE so everyone working in healthcare is protected from the virus and so we can protect our patients.”

Another user commented:

“Thank you Trooper Schwartz. Although your act of caring and kindness was probably just one of many you perform every year, it is outstanding this Dr took the time to get this story out to the public so they can truly understand the huge heart Troopers have. So many feel that we are out there writing tickets and enforcing the law like robots and don’t care about the average person. Those feeling that way are sadly mistaken and uninformed as much of a Troopers day is oftentimes spent helping people, not “hurting” them, as we often hear enforcement of laws is construed to do by those on the receiving end of a ticket or arrest.
Most take this job because they want to help others and your selfless act is just one more sign you are one of the great ones!
Thank you for all you do Tor Schwartz. To you and all your MSP colleagues, please stay safe during these incredibly dangerous times.

Homeless People To Be Moved From The Streets And Into Hotels

Homeless people in Australia could be moved to five-star hotels in an effort to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

The West Australian Government is getting ready to house homeless people at the Pan Pacific hotel in Perth for the ‘Hotels with Heart’ pilot.

There will be a one-month trial of 20 homeless people unable to self-isolate during the looming virus threat.

The cheapest room at Perth’s Pan Pacific hotel costs $170 per night, while the most expensive rooms go for $260 per night.

The initiative could be expanded to also house victims of abuse and domestic violence and people with mental health problems if everything goes by plan.

In total, 120 hotel rooms would be used.

Community Services Minister Simone McGurk said that the government understands that some groups of people are more vulnerable to coronavirus than others.

‘The Hotels with Heart pilot learns from similar initiatives happening interstate and around the world, including in the United Kingdom, America and Canada,’ she said.

Meanwhile, the United Kingdom has decided to convert hotels and offices into emergency spaces to protect the homeless from COVID-19.

Louise Casey, hired by Prime Minister Boris Johnson a month ago to help out with the problem of homelessness, was scheduled to get to work after Easter but growing concerns on homeless people’s vulnerability to the virus led her having to start immediately.

The strategy to keep the homeless safe follows California’s decision to allow vacant hotels to be turned into homes for desperate people vulnerable to COVID-19.

Technically, protecting Britain’s homeless by offering spaces for self-isolation means that up to 45,000 “self-contained accommodation spaces” must be found as soon as possible.

Empty hotels have been scheduled as a quick solution because they have separate cleaning facilities and rooms, and can be rented by the government using funding meant for tackling the COVID-19 threat.

“Social distancing is better with a furry friend by your side and a cold beer in your hand,” the representative added.

Mercedes F1 and University College London Engineers Create New Coronavirus Breathing Device In 4 Days

Formula 1 engine manufacturer Mercedes joined forces with health experts and engineers in London to come up with a breathing tool for coronavirus patients that can be produced in large quantities with ease.

It is an aid that can help reduce the need for ventilators.

The Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) device, which is a remodeled version of an existing one and has been assembled in less than 100 hours, was recommended by the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, according to a statement made by University College London, which took part in the making of the device.

The CPAP devices have so far been used in hospitals in Italy and China, with reports suggesting that around half of their patients have not needed ventilators thanks to them, as per a recent statement.

Sadly there is still a big shortage of ventilators in many countries including the UK.

“These devices will help to save lives by ensuring that ventilators, a limited resource, are used only for the most severely ill,” said professor Mervyn Singer, a critical care consultant at University College London Hospitals.

CPAP devices help people’s airways stay open and raise the amount of oxygen entering the lungs by pushing oxygen and air into the mouth and nose.

As per the statement, 100 of the new devices will be used in clinical trials, with “rapid rollout to hospitals around the country ahead of the predicted surge in Covid-19 hospital admissions.”

According to professor Tim Baker of UCL an action that can take years can now be accomplished in a few days, noting that the team worked exceptionally hard to “create a state-of-the-art version suited to mass production.”

Andy Cowell, managing director at Mercedes-AMG High-Performance Powertrains, expressed his pride in their chance to participate and produce the tool on the “fastest possible timeframe.”

Will They Ever Learn?: Chinese Markets Back To Selling Bats As Lockdown Is Lifted

Frightened cats and dogs stuffed into cages. Scorpions and bats being sold as medicine. Ducks and rabbits slaughtered and skinned next to one another on a floor covered with guts.

Those were some of the horrifying events that took place recently as China got back to business as usual while celebrating the ‘end’ of the coronavirus pandemic.

In a market in Dongguan, China, a person took photos of a medicine seller getting back to business with a sign advertising bats, which are thought to be the cause for the outbreak – along with other creatures including scorpions.

Via Daily Mail

The terrifying situation came as China decided to lift the nationwide lockdown and encouraged the population to get back to their normal lives in order to help the economy get back on its feet.

As per official statistics, there were no new infections.

‘Everyone here believes the outbreak is over and there’s nothing to worry about any more. It’s just a foreign problem now as far as they are concerned,’ said one of the China-based correspondents who captured photos for The Mail on Sunday.

Via Daily Mail

The Dongguan correspondent revealed:

‘The markets have gone back to operating in exactly the same way as they did before coronavirus.

‘The only difference is that security guards try to stop anyone taking pictures which would never have happened before.’

Wuhan’s markets were traced to have the first cases of coronavirus but people were silenced for weeks by officials, including Dr. Li Wenliang, 33, who later passed away due to the virus.

Currently, the Chinese government is starting conspiracy theories that the outbreak did not start in China in the first place. A long-discredited story shared many times on China’s Weibo social media platform says that the coronavirus started in Italy last November.

Via Daily Mail

At the same time, China is trying to put the blame for the crisis on the US army, who allegedly brought it there.

What are your thoughts on these irresponsible actions? Let us know by joining the conversation in the comments and please share this article if you’ve found it informative.

Ventilator 'Rationing' Begins in Britain Amid Coronavirus Crisis, Lockdown Extends Until June

Ventilator ‘rationing’ has started in Britain as only those with a ‘reasonable certainty’ of making it out alive are to receive the machines at a hospital in London.

This comes as the number of deaths in the United Kingdom has risen from 209 in 24 hours from 1019 to 1228, as cases surged from 2483 to 19,522.

Machines used for keeping patients breathing are being restricted on medical grounds, not because of lack of such, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust revealed to the Daily Telegraph.

They said:

‘very poorly patients with coronavirus may need to be on a ventilator for extended periods’, adding that ‘for some patients this would not be in their best interests’.

A senior consultant said:

‘As we learn more about the disease, we are being much more careful about which patients are being considered for critical care. In normal times we will give most people the benefit of the doubt. That has changed.’

‘With this infection you need a couple of weeks on a ventilator, so with resources being used for such a long time, you have to be reasonably certain the person is going to get better. Delaying their death for two or three weeks is not the right thing for them or for society.’

However, the medical director of the trust had the following to say:

‘clinicians at our trust are not making decisions about ventilating patients based on capacity considerations. Our trust currently has good capacity for patients requiring ventilation and already has plans in place to increase that capacity.’

As per an NHS spokesperson:

‘There are hundreds of critical care beds available in London and thousands in the rest of the country so any patient that would benefit can get the care they need.’

In addition, the United Kingdom would need to stay in full lockdown at least until June to beat coronavirus, according to a health chief.

Professor Neil Ferguson believes the people would need to stay home for about three months to stop the spread of the silent killer.

He told The Sunday Times:

“We’re going to have to keep these measures [the full lockdown] in place, in my view, for a significant period of time — probably until the end of May, maybe even early June. May is optimistic.”

He also warned that most likely the nation would still need to keep social distancing for a few months more after the end of the lockdown.

This could mean that educational facilities would need to remain shut until autumn, with people told to keep working from home.

Recently, Boris Johnson – who is currently fighting the coronavirus himself – said the situation would “get worse before it gets better”.

In a message being sent to households across the UK, the Prime Minister notes that the government will enforce further lockdown measures if it comes down to it.

The letter states:

“It’s important for me to level with you — we know things will get worse before they get better.

“But we are making the right preparations, and the more we all follow the rules, the fewer lives will be lost and the sooner life can return to normal.”

He added:

“We will not hesitate to go further if that is what the scientific and medical advice tells us we must do.”

Last week, the PM announced that he would be working from indoors after testing positive for the virus.

He will remain in isolation for a week under Public Health guidelines, while his pregnant fiancee Carrie Symonds is isolated separately.

Boris Johnson tests positive for coronavirus

Boris Johnson today tested positive for coronavirus – here's what he had to say.

Posted by Daily Mirror on Friday, March 27, 2020

According to a source:

“The PM believes he owes it to every one of us to explain directly why these tough measures are required. He is also keen to thank them for their efforts.

“It’s important to let people know how serious this pandemic is but also to give everyone a little hope that it won’t be forever and they will get all the support they need.”

An ambulance worker was given a box of chocolates and a round of applause from people in her neighborhood as she was leaving for her shift at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital.

Tayla Porter,22, bust into tears by the wonderful reception as she was leaving for her shift.

She was unable to hold back her tears while her mother, Ali, father, Phil, and sister, Tash, watched on.

On a local forum, Ali had mentioned that Tayla would miss the national carers clap at 8pm as she would be working at 4pm.

But she didn’t expect her entire street to be clapping when the family stepped outside.

She said:

“We barely know anyone on our street. You see each other daily, but you don’t know each other’s names.”

Tayla was also given a box of chocolates and a homemade cake to take for work.

“Tayla just couldn’t believe it. She couldn’t believe that people would even notice what she’s doing. She just loves her job.

“I had no idea the whole street would come out. I just thought it might be our next door neighbours and the house opposite.

“What I didn’t realise was that every single house had at least one person come out to clap her.

“It carried on all the way up our street and you could hear them clapping all the way up the next street too.

“It must have been people texting people or word of mouth, because not everyone is on there,” Ali said.

Ali shared a clip of the touching event on Facebook which has so far been shared more than 73,000 times and received over 76,000 likes.

Ali wrote:

Tayla – who dreams of becoming a lead paramedic – even had to miss her sister’s birthday to head out for her shift.

Ali said:

“There’s been some nights where Tayla’s come back and we’ve had to sit down and she’s had a bit of a cry from being exhausted.

“She’s seeing things that are quite scary. But she goes out there and puts a brave face on.

“We don’t know enough about coronavirus and that’s not the only thing they’re facing out there.”

LA teen whose death is linked to Coronavirus was denied urgent care because he didn't have insurance

A 17-year-old boy whose loss of life was reportedly linked to the coronavirus despite not having any underlying health problems was denied urgent care at a medical facility in California because he did not have health insurance.

Lancaster mayor R Rex Parris, confirmed the boy’s passing in a YouTube video last Wednesday.

He urged people to take the current crisis seriously and take all the necessary recommended measures such as social distancing, strong hygiene, and staying at home as much as possible.

“The Friday before he died, he was healthy,” the mayor revealed. “By Wednesday, he was dead.”

He added that the boy “didn’t have insurance, so they did not treat him” when he arrived at an urgent care facility in the area. The medical staff then told the child to go to a local public hospital.

“En route to AV Hospital, he went into cardiac arrest,” he added. “They were able to revive him and keep him alive for about six hours. But by the time he got there, it was too late.”

The boy’s death comes in the middle of a storm of news stories about your people suffering from severe COVID-19 symptoms.

This goes against previous claims that the virus is only fatal when it comes to the elderly and those with underlying health issues.

Another kid in Louisiana was said to have collapsed after being infected by the virus, in addition to a 21-year-old British female who also had no underlying health conditions.

However, the LA County Department of Public Health later noted that the teenager’s death was taken off a list of fatalities associated with the coronavirus. They said the CDC was still investigating the case and the symptoms prior to his death remain unclear.

Experts have recently warned that the hospital system in the US was already reaching full capacity.

There have been a number of 85,000 confirmed cases in the country so far, with 1,300 dead. These numbers are likely to rise significantly in the coming days.

New York has been at the centre of the crisis with close to 40,000 cases thus far. Despite the difficulties it was facing, however, the state has managed to distribute a large number of testing kits.

‘People Are Dying’: А Video of Doctors Battling Coronavirus | N.Y.C. Hospital

Packed waiting lobbies with contagious patients. People waiting for long hours on end to see a doctor. Others suffering on stretchers waiting for days for a bed. Medical workers desperately trying to find additional ventilators.

That is just part of the nightmare that is currently facing a New York hospital with 545 beds, as per Dr. Rikki Lane, a doctor at the Elmhurst Hospital Center in Queens.

“Our hospital has never, ever, ever seen anything like this,” revealed Lane, who has been working at Elmhurst for more than 20 years.

The doctor noted that the emergency department has been “overwhelmed” for around 3 weeks and the hospital is in a critical situation as the killer virus infects more and more people in the city.

There have been more than 21,000 coronavirus cases we know of so far and 281 losses of life.

Elmhurst Center has been expanding the area within the facility that is being used for the care of COVID-19 patients, but the never-ending influx of new patients has been overwhelming.

“Whatever space we create is immediately filled and overfilled,” she said.

Lane said that the hospital is in desperate need of any supplies they can get, including ventilators, and other gear.

“The need grows exponentially every single day,” she pleaded.

In what has been described as the hospital’s most horrific day so far, the coronavirus has taken the lives of 13 people in one day.

“All of this is unheard of,” she said.

She fears that New York could soon reach Italy’s crisis level, where, in a short time, coronavirus cases rose to 75,000 and more people have died than even in China, where it all started.

“I know actual true horrors are coming,” she said.

Another Elmhurst doctor, who wished to remain anonymous told The City:

“The only beds we’ve been able to free up are people who have died.”

Andrew Cuomo, the Governor of New York, said the city may need around 140,000 hospital beds as the virus goes into its peak and asked the federal government for the much-needed supplies.

Cuomo said that hundreds of thousands of supplies were distributed across the state, but they would not be enough.

New York City’s Mayor, Bill de Blasio, said the federal government was sending 2000 ventilators, but the city needs 15,000.

Meanwhile, a Brooklyn doctor said there had been severe shortages of masks and swabs.

He noted that medical workers are at a high risk of exposures and she was scared of getting infected and transferring it to her family. The doctor has asked to remain anonymous for fears of retaliation.

“I am scared to hug my own children,” she said.

“We need space and beds. This is a war. I’m going into war and trying not to get killed,” she said. “We are trying to go to work and not to die.”

New York is also adding a new makeshift morgue in preparation for the worst.

“I know the morgues push a really strong emotional button, obviously. We’re all humans,” de Blasio said. “It’s a very troubling thing to see, and it makes it very immediate, very visceral. It’s going to be very, very painful.”

Anthony Almojera, the vice president of the New York City Fire Department’s EMS officers union, said they have been getting a staggering number of calls.

“Last night we saw over 6,500 calls, the night before 6,400”

“The last week and a half we’ve been at 5,000 or more every day. That’s more than 9/11. In the last two days, we’ve set records,” he noted.

Recently, a number of doctors and nurses from other hospitals went to help Elmhurst.

In addition, the hospital received more ventilators to help the critically ill with their breathing, as per City Councilmember Francisco Moya.

“It’s very accurate to say it’s overrun. I’ve spoken to workers at the hospital and you can hear it in their voice — it’s a sign of desperation that they need help,” he told THE CITY.

Christopher Miller, an NYC Health + Hospitals spokesman told THE CITY:

“Elmhurst is at the center of this crisis, and it’s the number one priority of our public hospital system right now.”

NYC Health + Hospitals, New York’s public hospital system, told NBC News it was “working day and night to ensure that all our patients receive the care they need.”

They said the hospital system had “adequate supplies at the moment but are fully cognizant of the nationwide scarcity of resources” as well as “reports of lack of personal protective equipment and ventilators in our system are false.”

“The public health system is working with all local, state and federal agencies to ensure that resources are strategically allocated throughout to accommodate the surge caused by COVID-19,” they said. “We are committed to our mission to care for all New Yorkers regardless of immigration status and ability to pay, and are focused on keeping all our patients and staff safe.”

In the video below you can see emergency room doctor Coleen Smith at Elmhurst giving a rare look inside the hospital.

As you can see, the situation is truly horrifying.

Lockdown whiners slammed by Holocaust survivor grandma who hid 3 years in a well

Connie Ansaldi, an Argentinian journalist, has posted a recording of her grandma telling a story about how she survived the Holocaust.

The lady says she lived in a well for 3 years, hiding from the Nazis, with little to eat or drink, and nowhere to bathe. In her post, the journalist lashed out at people who refuse to quarantine themselves.

Connie visited her grandmother in the midst of the lockdown set to contain COVID-19.

The two talk about the situation, with Connie saying:

“Tell people to stay at home! How many years did you hide in a well?”

To which her grandmother answers:

“Three years! Without bathing or anything.”

When her grandchild asks her whether she believes people can cope with isolation, she says:

“There is no comparison.”

Mi abuela siempre me pregunta por qué sigo siendo tan rebelde …. yo no le contesto pero me rio… no se da cuenta que la rebelde, siempre fue Ella. #Abuli ❤

Connie had the following to say to the public:

“My grandmother (a Holocaust survivor) told me ‘I spent three years hiding in an underground well so they did not kill me and two years in the ghetto.

“Without bathing and almost no food. Can’t people spend two weeks at home?’

“We talk a lot about what’s going on. She is not afraid for herself but for us. Let’s take care of our grandparents.

“Mine, everyone’s. Those who are vulnerable and those who are healthy who may be affected.

“Everything has a solution except death. This is a war and the enemy is invisible.”

Many people have responded to the video, which has received over 87,000 likes, thanking Connie’s grandmother.

One person said:

“A genius your grandmother… as well as a survivor.”

Another posted:

“Grandparents always have the right word!”

A third person commented:

“This happens, because our people never suffered a war or earthquake, or hunger, so there is no culture of work, no effort!”

Another person agreed with the message saying:

“I agree with your grandmother, it is not death, isolation, it is only a matter of mentalising.”

One user wrote:

“Your grandmother must think that we are fools in this country… she is right.”

A week ago Argentina imposed a lockdown on the country in hopes to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
