Last week, the referee of the BDB International German super featherweight match between Cheyenne Hanson and Alina Zaitseva was forced to call off the game after Hanson, 23, suffered a huge face hematoma. During the match, the boxer sustained multiple head butts.

However, as UNILAD reports, it wasn’t until an accidental head clash between herself and Zaitseva that doctors insisted on ending the game, as the German athlete was unable to continue boxing.

The young boxer’s head began to swell while she was still on the ring, so the referee had to call off the game. However, despite being unable to finish the match, Hanson won the BDB International German Championship via technical decision.

Although she suffered a harrowing injury, the 23-year-old athlete celebrated her victory on IG.

In an Instagram post regarding Hanson becoming the BDB International German Champion, she wrote:

“WE DID IT !!! BDB INTERNATIONAL GERMAN CHAMPION! It was a though fight. I wanna thank my trainer @profistallhaan and my trainingspartner the WBC Champ @tinarupprecht for all the trainings-/ sparring sessions. Also a huge thanks to my sponsors… Also a big thanks to all my supporters!”

The young boxer later shared petrifying ‘before and after’ pictures of herself, showing the dramatic change after the injury.

Luckily, the swelling following the massive hematoma was gone in only a few days. The champion was quick to post her healing process on her IG stories and to express how grateful she is for all the support she received while recovering.
