5 Greatly Beneficial Reasons To Respect Others

“When we treat people merely as they are, they will remain as they are. When we treat them as if they were what they should be, they will become what they should be.”
– Thomas S. Monson

A strong society runs on respect.

Respect for fellow human beings is crucial to peace and order.

But nevertheless, there are a number of different worldviews which cause respect to take a back seat.

We don’t always wish to respect others, especially if they have been disrespectful to us. And there are times when even our family members and partners don’t give us the respect we deserve.

Here are 5 greatly beneficial reasons why you need to respect the people around you, even if you don’t feel like it.

1. In a stable society, respect is a must

One of the great things about a civil society is the respect we show to our fellow citizens. The belief that our family members, neighborhood, city, and nation are all deserving to be respected.

In 1948 the United Nations Assembly adopted The Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Its mission was to provide worthy of respect status to all people no matter where they are in life. No human being is excluded.

2. Respect multiplies

The great thing about doing good things is the blessings that follow. When we show respect to the people we meet, this respect multiplies.

When you show respect even to an undeserving person, you give value to them and can even make them change their ways. Many people are so foreign to the idea that someone could respect them that they return the gesture. Some of the worst people you encounter in life may see the light when shown respect, which in itself is a true miracle!

3. Respect is the foundation of every functioning relationship.

A long-lasting relationship is impossible without mutual respect. People just don’t like to be emotionally neglected. They don’t like to be demeaned, undervalued, dishonored, and disrespected.

If you or your partner are disrespectful to each other there is no way what you have can last. Unless you are happy being in a toxic relationship that is…

Healthy, stable and mutually-beneficial relationships show mutual respect. It is vital to their survival.

4. Respect raises trust

Respect builds bridges and raises trust in people. By showing respect to others you make them see that they have true value. This kindness draws them to you, which, in turn, allows you to form new meaningful connections.

Even though it may be hard to respect some people at times, remember that you will gain more if you do so than if you choose to make them an enemy.

5. Respect is a testimony of character

When it comes to how people see you, they don’t remember whether you lead a healthy lifestyle, give to charity, or go to church. They remember how you made them feel. If you treat people with respect – especially when they are aware that they haven’t earned it – that respect is your testimony. It makes them see a different side of you. A side they are drawn to. Instead of coming to them for payback, you came to give them respect. And that his how you ultimately make people respect you.

Do you believe that every human being no matter how good or bad is deserving of respect?
